You make a difference.

When you ride in ESR Long Island, you’re making a commitment to help the future of cancer research and save lives from cancer through clinical trials. The funds raised by our riders support clinical trials at Catholic Health Cancer Institutes, led in partnership with America’s first cancer center, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.

Roswell Park Care Network.

Catholic Health is part of the Roswell Park Care Network, the most expansive community cancer, supportive and specialized care affiliation, spanning across New York State. Led by Roswell Park, the network of physicians and supportive care teams are committed to reducing the burden of cancer. Catholic Health’s partnership with Roswell Park through the Care Network gives patients on Long Island access to the newest clinical trials, which are continually helping to push the boundaries in cancer treatments.

Clinical trials.

A clinical trial is a study designed to evaluate a promising new medical treatment before it can be made widely available to patients. Researchers develop new treatments for physicians to administer to patients who have enrolled in the trial and follow their progress. Physicians then report their observations back to researchers who focus their efforts accordingly.

When clinical trials identify effective treatments, these treatments will eventually become the new standard of care that will be offered to future patients. Today’s standard treatments were researched and proven by clinical trials done in the past.

The latest immunotherapy clinical trials for patients include:

SurVaxM

A team at Roswell Park generated SurVaxM, a promising treatment vaccine for brain cancer. The work has continued to advance and has since expanded to a pivotal multicenter, randomized trial for patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma.

CIMAvax

The CIMAvax-EGF lung cancer vaccine clinical trial is available exclusively through Roswell Park thanks to a partnership with scientists in Cuba. The vaccine has advanced recently and is now in the beginning stages of a prevention study for lung cancer survivors and those at high risk.

Launching clinical trials and bringing these new therapies to patients on Long Island requires significant funding, making every dollar raised through ESR Long Island critical to finding the next cancer cure.
